Protein NOV homolog is a secreted, regulatory protein found mainly in muscle and nervous tissue which interacts with many molecules, including fibulin 1C, CCN2, Connexin43 (to regulate the suppression of cell proliferation) and S100A4 (trigger activation of calcium channels). By signalling through an integrin pathway, NovH promotes both cell migration and adhesion. Increased levels of NovH have been found in some tumour cells and in most nephroblastomas while decreased levels of this protein may also promote tumour growth.
