Rat Pancreatic Islets
Catalog No. RA-6232L (Live Cells); RA-6232F (Frozen Vial)
Suggested Medium: Pancreatic islet culture medium /w Kit – 500 ML
Catalog No. M2269
Product Description
Rat Pancreatic Islets from Cell Biologics are isolated from the pancreas of Sprague–Dawley rat using Collagenase P and purified using Ficoll density gradient. The isolated islets are cultured in Cell Biologics’ Pancreatic Islet Culture Medium containing 5% FBS.
Product Testing
Rat Pancreatic Islets are tested for their viability using FDA/PI, purity using Dithizone staining, static insulin secretion in response to 14 mM glucose. Upon request, dynamic insulin secretion and calcium imaging in response to glucose and other stimulators can be performed.
Laboratory Applications
Rat Pancreatic Islets can be used for the assay of islet function, drug testing, PCR, Western blot, immunoprecipitation, immunofluorescent flow cytometry, or others for desired research applications.
Storage of Cell Biologics’ Products
Cell Biologics ships fresh islet cells on at either room temperature or 4°C. On receipt, immediately transfer the cells to 37°C and 5% CO2 incubator.
Authorized Uses of Cell Biologics’ Products

Disclaimer
Appropriate safety procedures should always be used with this material. Investigators should handle the cells that they receive from Cell Biologics with caution and treat all primary cells as potential pathogens, since no test procedure can completely guarantee the absence of infectious agents. Warranty and Liability
Cell Biologics’ guarantee applies only to your purchase of Cell Biologics’ Cells with Cell Biologics’ Media and Coating Solution for appropriate cell culture and cell testing following Cell Biologics’ online protocols within 35 days from the date of product delivery.
Primary Cell Culture Protocol
- All cell culture procedures must be conducted in a bio-safety cabinet.
- Any and all media, supplements, and reagents must be sterilized by filtration through a 0.2 µm filter.
- Use aseptic technique to prevent microbial contamination.
- Cryo-preserved cells must be stored in liquid nitrogen or seeded immediately upon arrival.
Medium:
- Review the information provided on the Cell Biologics website about appropriate culture media (e.g. serum and other supplements). Use pre-warmed (37°C) cell culture media (30-50 ML) to recover cryopreserved cells and when changing media or splitting cells.
- Handling of Arriving Live Cells
- When you receive the live cells in a tube, keep cells in 37°C CO2 incubator for 15 min.
- Centrifuge cells at 500 rpm for 1 minute.
- Aspirate the supernatant and resuspend the cell pellet in 6 ml of Cell Biologics’ Cell Culture Growth medium (Catalog No. M2269).
- Transfer cells from a vial to the cell culture plate.
- Place a plate in a humidified, 5%-CO2 incubator at 37°C until experiments.
- Cells can be cultured for 3-7 days.
- Change fresh cell culture medium every 24-48 hours.
- Cells should be checked daily under a microscopy to verify appropriate cell morphology.
